2021 GMC AT4 Towing Capacity – Max Ratings Explained

Towing Capacity

The AT4 is GMC’s specially equipped off-road trim available across several models including the Sierra 1500, Yukon, Acadia, Canyon and more. At Antich Automotive, we want to provide an in-depth look at the 2021 GMC AT4 maximum towing capacities, equipment and configurations.

2021 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 Towing Capacity

The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 pickup offers robust towing capabilities in a more rugged, off-road focused package. Here are the max towing specs:

  • Max Conventional Towing – Up to 9,200 lbs
  • Max 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Towing – Up to 8,900 lbs

With the available 6.2L V8 engine and Max Trailering Package, the 1500 AT4 can confidently pull travel trailers, boats and cargo.

The standard 5.3L V8 engine offers reduced towing capacity:

  • Max Conventional Towing – 8,600 lbs
  • Max 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Towing – 7,800 lbs

Towing capacity is consistent across 1500 AT4 crew cab configurations with either the standard or available long bed. As with all GMC models, equipping the proper trailering equipment is required to reach max towing ratings.

2021 GMC Yukon AT4 Towing Capacity

The Yukon AT4 pairs rugged off-road capability with excellent towing power. When properly equipped, max towing specs are:

  • Max Conventional Towing – 7,700 lbs

This allows the midsize Yukon AT4 SUV to pull a variety of recreational, cargo and boat trailers with confidence. Towing capacity is consistent across 2WD and 4WD configurations. As with the Sierra, equipping the available 6.2L V8 engine and trailering package helps achieve the max rating.

2021 GMC Acadia AT4 Towing Capacity

The new Acadia AT4 provides a balance of trail-ready styling and towing versatility. When properly equipped, max towing is rated at:

  • Max Conventional Towing – 4,000 lbs

This allows the Acadia AT4 to tow small-to-medium sized trailers including:

  • Small pop-up campers
  • Lightweight boats like bass boats and skiffs
  • Single-axle utility trailers

Towing capacity remains consistent across front-wheel or all-wheel drive AT4 models. As with all Acadia trims, the trailering package is required to reach the max 4,000 lb tow rating.

2021 Canyon AT4 Towing Capacity

While not yet available, a future Canyon AT4 model is expected with similar off-road enhancements as other AT4 models. Max towing capacity will depend on cab, bed, drivetrain and engine:

  • 2.5L 4-Cylinder – 3,500 lbs capacity
  • 3.6L V6 Gas – 7,000 lbs capacity
  • 2.8L Diesel – 7,700 lbs capacity

When equipped with the trailering package, the Canyon AT4 will offer excellent midsize truck towing versatility.

AT4 Towing Features and Equipment

In addition to unique exterior styling, off-road suspension and aggressive all-terrain tires, AT4 models include standard and available trailering features:

  • Standard trailering hitch receiver
  • Available integrated trailer brake controller
  • Rear vision camera with hitch view
  • Trailer sway control
  • Hill descent control
  • Auto locking rear differential on truck models
  • Heavy-duty transmission cooler
  • Higher capacity radiator

While max towing requires GM’s Max Trailering Package, the AT4 line is well-equipped for moderate towing needs right from the factory. Careful attention must still be paid to GCWR, payload capacity and proper weight distribution when towing near max ratings. With the right setup, the 2021 GMC AT4 lineup provides reliable towing power for outdoor adventures and family trips.
